Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is a member of the mint family. Catnip attracts 80% of all cats, domestic and wild. Even lions and tigers are sensitive to the oils in the stems, leaves and flowers!

Catnip has long been used as a seasoning, in salads, and to make calming teas, but was first cultivated for its effect on cats. If fresh, the leaves and stems need bruising to release their oils, or you can dry and crush them as a special treat for your cat!

Grows pretty fast. Great catnip. Looks pretty too. Best to supplement with some othe catnip as it takes a lot of catnip to make dried catnip. But I just pick off a leaf and throw it on the floor and my cats roll all over it.

I like to make homemade toys for my cat and this catnip garden has been a big hit with them! I just dry out the leaves and crush them up before putting them in a new toy.
